My work is concerned with the psychological exploration of the human body. Throughout the years I have noticed how depressed and confused women are when not able to express their real emotions due to the fear of not complying with societal norms. I am also concerned with male positions in society and how they reflect or contradict the female position

I use digital and analogue photography as well as video to explore the ideal of a woman in today’s world. During the past few years I have explored a persons position in society and how societal norms affect ones personality. In the past I have put my self in the position of an observer, trying to understand how all the constraints we undergo and have to obey to, affect our upbringing. I have explored a woman’s place in society and a woman’s reactions in great depth, because being a woman I undergo the same fears and anxieties. I am interested in women’s internal reactions like depression.

I have created a video that addresses the pressures women undergo in 21st century western societies. In order to be successful, a woman is expected to be thin, fit, pretty and powerful. My work takes a humoristic approach, to my own body image drawn from personal family influences and from the media, and fashion, the ideal woman! Why should I be different from every one else, why can’t I be strong powerful successful, like men supposedly are? Thus I am addressing the myth that women don’t fit in, aren’t supposed to talk, men do the talking. Well my obsession is shouting and is saying a lot, “push”, “fast”, “you can do it”, I am calling out to sex, calling out to men, I am challenging them, who is stronger? Who is faster? It is a question of masculinity and power!

I am also looking into ancient civilizations and how symbols of that time comply with today’s world. My most recent work is an exploration of my body in an ancient civilization like china. I am documenting my reactions to the country using myself as an object and placing me in the Chinese symbols while searching for the connections in western societies. I am very much interested in a woman’s position in the Chinese culture, I am curious if they undergo the same pressures and anxieties we do, and how much of that is because of their society?

I then started a journey of self-exploration through role-playing, which led to the creation of a reality that is unreal. The outcome was the exhibition Chasing dreams.

Recently I worked with my fellow photographer Theo Vranas on a project that combines my interest for the female persona and with my love for the mountains. This collaboration accounts for the result of the viewer standing in awe before the motion of the human figure, which is inspired by the mountain. Through our lenses that begin from different viewpoints yet conclude in close proximity… like distant cousins.

That said I am very concerned with women’s reactions to all this and what outcomes arise from this pressure, I am concerned with eating disorders, psychological states and want to shout out, that everything can be done in everyone’s pace and discrimination shouldn’t exist!
